Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft’s answer to the rapidly changing AI assistant market, but its biggest strength is not simply its underlying AI model. Its real advantage is its integration into Microsoft’s enormous productivity ecosystem.
For millions of professionals, work already happens inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and other Microsoft products. Copilot places AI directly inside these applications, allowing users to work with AI without constantly moving information between different platforms.
That makes Copilot particularly compelling for businesses.
Imagine preparing a report in Word, analyzing financial information in Excel, creating a presentation in PowerPoint and managing correspondence through Outlook. Instead of treating AI as a separate application, Copilot can participate directly in those workflows.
Microsoft’s current business offering includes Copilot Chat, Copilot in applications such as Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and access to agents through Copilot Studio.
This makes Copilot particularly attractive to organizations that already pay for Microsoft 365.
One of its biggest strengths is enterprise security and governance. Businesses often cannot simply give employees access to consumer AI tools and allow them to upload sensitive company information. Microsoft has built Copilot around enterprise identity, security and data controls.
